Rajaram Mohan Roy

satyameva jayate nānṛtaṁ, satyena panthā vitato devayānaḥ, yenākramantyṛṣayo hyāptakāmā, yatra tat satyasya paramaṁ nidhānam - Mundaka Upanishad 3.1.6

Truth alone triumphs; not falsehood. Through truth the divine path is spread out by which the sages whose desires have been completely fulfilled, reach where that supreme treasure of Truth resides.

Manish Mishra is the senior minister of the Unitarian Church in Cherry Hill, NJ

For in depth study of Hindu - Brahmo connections please read the book UNITARIANS INDIA by Lavin Spencer. (Beacon Press)

In the book you will find that it is the Unitarian connection with Brahmo that changed the Unitarians from being "Jesus freaks" to what they are now - secular !

On some later date I will forward more information on this issue.

Right now I am traveling and not at my home base.

Rajiv: This is the aspect being sold to Indians who foolishly buy it. It is part 1 of the story. Part 2 is that Ram Mohan Roy, influenced by Unitarianism, started the project of producing a digested form of Hinduism, and this project has been going for 200 years.

So influence went in both directions, but unequally. This is important.

Unitarians today are less than 1% of the population of American Christians. You can hardly say this impacted mainstream Christianity. But Roy's Brahmo Samaj became mainstream Bengali culture, impacted such persons as Tagore. It then made mainstream this "Reformed Hinduism ==> pseudo-Christianity" which is the very foundation of the sameness disease today.

The dilution of Hinduism to impress the Englishmen, and the genesis of sameness was started by Ram Mohan Roy under Unitarian influence. Christians considered it a major coup that Roy had become Christianized.

Nothing of EQUIVALENT AND COMPARABLE change went in the other direction.

Shri Kapoor must understand Nicene Creed, history centrism and the other important concepts. I know there are many such indians deeply involved in interfaith with Unitarians/Quakers. Another example is my dear friend Madan lal Goel who debated this very point with me in UMass a year back at a conference. I should find that video and put it up - it was a nice debate and hope the video captured it fully.
